As I practiced piano again yesterday, my heart ached and my mind raced...while my soul yearned for God's direction, healing and peace. So much has happened in our lives recently. There are many blessings as well as some heartbreaking burdens. I couldn't quite grasp the "big picture" of the why, what, when, where and how all of this fits into the tapestry of our lives. I realize we will not always have answers or understanding...but how do we face so much discord in life while striving for harmony...and not feel overwhelmed or even discouraged?
One of my favorite pieces of music is Johann Sebastian Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring." This is a rather extensive piece that provides beautiful and moving dynamics, as well as a strong hymn message often overlooked. As I rehearsed this amazing piece, turning page after page of the movement, I discovered yet another lesson from God's gift of music. Obviously, many notes are played, many dynamcs are utilized and many pages are pursued in order to complete the work of this piece. I have yet to play, sing, direct or compose a piece of music that does not require a combination of high and low notes, crescendos and decrescendos, harmony, rests, and other vital elements. The summation of all these essentials creates a moving, influential and beautiful work of heart that reaches to the core of our being...like nothing else.
Isn't that very similar to life? Some days we soar in joy and excitement. Other moments bring silence and suffering. Some experiences are very easy and attainable. Other seasons bring brokenness, pause, difficulty and discord. Although we cannot see how they are orchestrated to create a beautiful, purposeful and effective masterpiece, God does. He realizes that each value, dynamic, sound...and yes, even silence...represents a vital measure in the progressive score of His work in our lives. Our God sees the big picture...the complete, beautiful and amazing masterpiece only He could design, direct and deliver.
Whether our present moment finds us wonderful or weary, excited or exhausted, certain or confused, delighted or discouraged...I pray that we realize and cling to Him...the Master Designer, Director, Orchestrator, Author and Hope of our lives...our Audience of One.♥~thl
