Practice...or preach?

..."the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem..." "So they hurried off...." (Luke 2: 15)

I think we can all learn from the shepherds. They weren't fancy people. They weren't called by name in Scripture. They lived very humble, ordinary lives...to say the least.

But they did something so right....something we can learn from greatly. They heard the Good news of great joy from
the angel and the praising from the host of angels...and they immediately went as they had been called to do.

They didn't sit around and discuss the theology of it. They didn't worry that they weren't good enough to follow God's direction for their lives. They simply went. They didn't hesitate. They followed God and literally became much closer to Christ.

But it didn't stop there. Verse 17 says after they had seen Him, they spread the word about Him! They heard. They went. They saw. They shared. What incredible servants they were!

Sometimes I fear we get so busy in life that we "preach" more than we "practice." Words come easily. Actions take more effort...time...life. More of "us" is required when we live it instead of only speak it.

How interesting....that the humble shepherds simply followed The Good Shepherd...literally...wholeheartedly...unselfishly. I think we can learn much from them. May we practice with our lives more than we preach from our lips. ♥~thl
